In an August survey done by users on websites in the Google Surveys Publisher Network, Acronis discovered that Singapore users believe human error causes the most data loss, but are generally not willing to pay to recover lost files.
Nearly 29% said data loss had been mostly caused by human error, while another 28% attributed losses mostly to hardware failure.
Slightly under one-third (32.5%) had heard of ransomware, but the majority (65.4%) said they would not pay to get their files back, whether the files were lost because of ransomware or data loss. A further 21% said they would not pay more than US$50, though 1.9% of respondents said they were willing to cough up more than US$500.
Survey findings included:
- More than half (53.9%) of respondents do not back up their computers
- Four in 10 (42.9%) had lost important files and photos from their computer or mobile device
