New appointments at Ooredoo

Ooredoo has announced that Hassan Marafih is now Chief Officer of the Small & Medium Business Unit (SMBU), succeeding Khalid Al-Mahmoud, who has retired.

Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, Group CEO, Ooredoo, said: “I want to wish Mr Hassan Marafih success at this exciting period which will witness a lot of developments and challenges in the telecoms industry. I also want to thank Mr Khalid Al-Mahmoud who has served Ooredoo in various capacities and in his role as Chief Officer of Small & Medium Business Unit. Khalid has done an excellent job and we are thankful for his unblemished track record and all what he has done for Ooredoo."

As Chief Officer, Al-Mahmoud managed six SMB entities: Wataniya Palestine, Bravo (Saudi Arabia), Wataniya Maldives, wi-tribe Jordan, wi-tribe Pakistan and wi-tribe Philippines. Ooredoo did not elaborate on whether Marafih will also do the same.

Chris Kanter has been appointed President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo. He has served as an Independent Commissioner and Commissioner of Indosat Ooredoo since 2010.

The Chairman and Founder of Sigma Sembada Group, a major player and turnkey contractor in transportation and logistics, he is currently a Commissioner of Bank BNP Paribas Indonesia and a Member of the Board of Governors of US-based East West Center.

He was previously Vice Chairman of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) Asia Pacific (2007 to 2018), Commissioner of Garuda Indonesia (2013 to 2015), Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) (1994 to 2015), and Vice Chairman of the Indonesia Employers Association (APINDO (2017 to 2015).
