This blog was begun in January 2014 as an outlet for news, trends and other insights in Asian technology because of the shrinking number of publications covering enterprise technology, software development, electronics, manufacturing, and channels in Singapore.
TechTrade Asia is about the computer and communications technology trade in Asia Pacific and the Middle East (APME). Central Asia is occasionally featured.
The blog covers recent trends and developments with B2B and B2C technology stakeholders, including major product launches, and changes in customer demand. While enterprise technology predominates, TechTrade Asia is about the full spectrum of technology, including consumer technology, so long as it impacts the industry.
As a rule of thumb the information must impact a vendor's target audiences in APME, as opposed to targeting consumers and businesses in other parts of the world.
Enterprise-directed technology announcements are typically featured in sister blog TechTouch Asia, which is part of the TechTrade Asia family.
B2C-directed announcements and events are typically featured in sister blog WorkSmart Asia.
As resources are limited this blog is not meant to be first with the news, and cannot provide a comprehensive overview of the industry. Editorially TechTrade Asia provides an alternative perspective of the industry through a personal curation of news items.
Target Audience
This blog focuses on anyone working in the trade as well as on actual users of technology, especially enterprise technology.
I can provide some general numbers from Google Analytics (please ask).
Frequency
This Singapore-based blog is updated at least once a fortnight. Mondays are the best days to visit, though there are often additions over the week.
Amplification
TechTrade Asia, TechTouch Asia and the tech-related part of WorkSmart Asia share a Facebook account, TechLifeAsia; an Instagram account, @techlifeasia, and a Twitter account, @techlifeasia. Posts may be mentioned on social media, but not often.
Editorial Calendar for 2019/20
TechTrade Asia requests comments regularly, with the major features being for a year-end roundup and predictions for the next year. There is no need to pitch - just send comments, and the most interesting ones will be featured.
Technology milestones for 2019
Commentary on technology milestones for the current year are published at the end of the year. Topics are finalised in October.
For end-2019 milestones, the topics are:
- Directions for Blockchain over the year
- Assistance 2020 - robots, drones, voice-activated virtual assistants
- The future of personalisation, retail, e-commerce and payments in APME
- Smart cities, public safety and the Internet of Things
- A look back at digital transformation in healthcare, manufacturing, and BFSI
For the milestones pieces, please send commentary by mid-November on what the milestones for these areas of focus were, specifically:
- Common misconceptions
- What milestones did you see for the topic in 2019?
- Is 2020 going to be different?
- What advice do you have for industry players?
Comments should be around 100 words per point made. E.g. if the topic is security, and there are mobile technologies, legacy technologies, and human behaviour that will be significant for next year. That would be 100 words on mobile technologies, 100 words on legacy technologies, and 100 words on human behaviour, so 300 words just for that first point.

Business Model
I do not work on the blog full-time. Content comes from websites, press releases and events that I attend. There is no charge for appearances or coverage.
Major technology conferences are often covered, such as ConnecTechAsia in Singapore, as well as Mobile World Congress and CES.
Coverage from media trips is free but will also mention that the travel and accommodation costs are sponsored.
Rate Card 2019
I do not have a formal media kit or rate card since coverage is generally free at this time.
What I can do
Do email press releases to me for consideration. There may be more Singapore-based content as I am based in Singapore but content from anywhere else in Asia, the Pacific or the Middle East is welcome. I visit the wires and the newsrooms of various companies on occasion as well.
I also cover selected events in person in Singapore, but don't really do interviews or accept contributed content. Overseas events - during which I am open to interviews - may be possible but require a longer lead time as I have to make other arrangements for existing commitments.
I get more press releases and invitations to press events that I can handle, so no promises as to coverage. Coverage depends on a combination of relevance, timing, and whether I have the time to blog vs my day job. Events that I cover in person do get priority, but coverage again depends on relevance.
Press releases which are a couple of weeks old or more are unlikely to be featured. Please note that posts may be updated with new content like pictures and links etc after publication.
The blogging process for WorkSmart Asia is explained here, and it is basically similar for TechTrade Asia and TechTouch Asia.
