The new data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) at Schneider Electric is now cloud-based, and positioned as a tool that enables a full ecosystem of vendors, customers and their partners to work together.

“You're working on the exact same data at the exact same time,” explained Kevin Brown, SVP Innovation and CTO, Secure Power Division, Schneider Electric at DCD>Singapore 2019.

The Schneider Electric EcoStruxure solution also offers a holistic overview of the data centre with features that make management easier, such as benchmarking of assets against industry norms, and visibility via a mobile app.

Brown explained that traditional DCIM solutions were over-hyped and overly complicated, which made them difficult to adopt. Instead, DCIM solutions should be addressing customer pain points, and ready for today's hybrid cloud environments. Additionally, DCIM architectures should allow actionable, insightful, scalable and cost-effective management.

“I don’t think we’re done by any means,” Brown said. “We had to make a bet and get the architecture in, we had to get the data in and the analytics...But we’re pretty excited that we’re on the right path.”
