Pinduoduo sees demand return in March 2020

Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo (PDD) has been seeing recovery in demand since March. As of March 15, daily package volumes stabilised at above 50 million, a more than 60% increase over the same period a year ago, the company said.

PDD has launched a campaign to help revive sales of agricultural produce from Hubei, the Chinese province hit hardest by COVID-19. On April 2, a virtual pavilion was launched on the PDD app featuring products from Hubei, making it the first such provincial pavilion on e-commerce platforms in China.

Prominent placement for the pavilion and discounts have helped to make Hubei’s products more discoverable by PDD’s 585 million users. PDD also enlisted the help of community leaders from counties and cities in Hubei to promote their local specialties via livestreaming. As of March 31, livestreaming of agricultural produce on PDD has attracted almost 11 million consumers, with a cumulative online reach exceeding 150 million views.
