Action at 150 kmh transmitted in ultra HD through Singtel 5G at SGMX

Singtel has powered Singapore’s first fully livestreamed outdoor event, Singapore Motocross Beach Race (SGMX), over its 5G network from Sentosa. The event marked the first time in Singapore that 5G connectivity provided exclusive Ultra High Definition views directly from the riders’ body-worn cameras as they travelled at up to 150 kmh.

After two years, the SGMX returned with hundreds of motocross riders from all around the world racing in a fully-enclosed beach circuit this June. The high intensity beach-themed extreme sporting event only permitted 1,000 onsite participants due to ongoing safe management measures.

In order for more people to experience the action in real time from anywhere in the world, the organisers needed a reliable mobile network that could guarantee high throughput and low latency performance for broadcasting the event. As part of the 5G@Sentosa programme, Singtel partnered with IMDA and SGMX to fully stream the event on 5G, showcasing 5G’s enhanced mobile broadband capability to support UHD content.

This event is further proof that outdoor events can leverage the reliability of Singtel’s 5G network to distribute real-time UHD content from multiple 5G-enabled devices that are concurrently streaming over global online mediums, Singtel said.

Bill Chang, CEO, Group Enterprise, Singtel said: “Powering Singapore’s first outdoor live streaming event is an exciting and visual way to demonstrate the immersive experience 5G has to offer enterprises and consumers. Our high-speed wireless 5G network offers low latency and uninterrupted connectivity which enables real-time Ultra-High-Definition content from multiple 5G-enabled devices to stream concurrently over global online mediums. This technology opens up an unparalleled frontier of creative possibility for event organisers to develop unique event ideas, set up in interesting locations and engage audiences from anywhere in the world - and in doing so help unlock new revenue streams.

"This event is also further proof that outdoor events can leverage the reliability of Singtel’s 5G network and we’re eager to work with partners to deliver more interactive and innovative event experiences.”
