Q2 technology milestones for 2022 include:

April 2022

- Elon Musk announces that he will buy Twitter. 

- The US Department of Commerce sets up the Global CBPR Forum to promote interoperability and help bridge different regulatory approaches to data protection and privacy. Asian participants include Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan. 

CBPR stands for cross-border privacy rules.

May 2022

- Broadcom acquires VMware.

- InnoHK, the flagship information and technology (I&T) initiative of the Hong Kong government, was launched. InnoHK aims to promote global research collaboration with a view to putting Hong Kong on the global advanced technology map. 

- The Seoul Metropolitan government and Seoul Institute of Technology (SIT) pilots a hyper-realistic metaverse featuring virtual replicas of real-life spaces, such as Seoul City Hall and Seoul Plaza, for use in major events, forums, and education in the future.

- Singapore launches the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) testing framework and toolkit to promote transparency.

- Stablecoin TerraUSD and its companion token Luna deviate from US$1, showing that stablecoins may not be so stable and precipitating a steep fall in cryptocurrency prices.

- Xiaomi and Leica officially announce a partnership for mobile imaging.

June 2022

- Alibaba Cloud unveils an upgraded Wuying cloud computer which makes high-definition video game development and video rendering possible from anywhere. Ultra-high-definition video can be accessed at 8k resolution and lags are as low as 20 milliseconds. An ultra-thin cloud-powered laptop, Wuying Cloudbook, is launched in November.

- Samsung kickstarts initial production of its 3-nanometer (nm) process node, using its version of gate-all-around (GAA) transistor architecture - Multi-Bridge-Channel FET - for the first time.
