OPPO debuts flip phone

OPPO, the smart device brand, has launched its first flip phone in Singapore.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip combines the largest cover screen in the industry with day-long battery life and SUPERVOOC flash charging, the company said. The tall cover screen features widgets that help users stay on top of their notifications and other meaningful information, so users don't have to unfold the phone as often.

Measuring 3.26", the Find N2 Flip's cover screen makes everything easier to do, OPPO said. Its vertical orientation is also a game-changer, up to six notifications can be viewed at a time. Users can also reply to messages quickly in mainstream messenger apps, toggle settings, record a voice note, answer a call and more – all without picking up or opening the phone.

With polished aluminium sides, a fingerprint-resistant glass cover and a unique micro-etched wave pattern across the hinge, the Find N2 Flip weighs 191 g and measures 7.45 mm when open. Other features include a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor and dual-SIM 5G connectivity.

Its 6.8" E6 AMOLED display has a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio and 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. Viewability is also excellent across environments thanks to an advanced anti-reflection film and up to 1,600 nits of brightness.

Co-developed with Hasselblad, the camera manufacturer, Find N2 Flip captures pro-grade colours and has a Professional Mode as well as an XPAN mode for images in wide, cinematic frames. The Find N2 Flip’s flagship 50 MP main camera features a large Sony IMX890 sensor with an f/1.8 lens. The Find N2 Flip’s 17:9 aspect ratio cover screen is the same vertical orientation as the phone’s camera sensor, which reduces the cropping to a minimum.

When in FlexForm Mode, made possible by the New Generation Flexion Hinge, the Find N2 Flip holds its position mid-fold between 45º and 110º for waist-level dynamic angles, and 4K time-lapse video. FlexForm Mode also turns the flip phone into a hands-free camera triggered with an open palm gesture. The 32 MP selfie camera has a Sony IMX709 sensor, autofocus, and a wide-angle lens, enabling high-quality hands-free video calls. FlexForm Mode is optimised for apps like WhatsApp and Zoom.

Find N2 Flip’s in-house imaging neural processing unit (NPU), MariSilicon X, boosts night video to capture clear 4K footage in low light. Users can hold the phone part-folded and sideways, just like a camcorder, for a steadier grip.

The Find N2 Flip is defined by its New Generation Flexion Hinge. The hinge’s miniaturised design is made up of fewer components than the original Flexion Hinge, with a waterdrop-shaped fold that results in a significantly shallower, narrower crease than other flip phones when unfolded. In addition to being incredibly subtle to the eye, it also feels virtually imperceptible to the touch for an uncompromised, flat-screen experience, OPPO said.

Just as with Find N and Find N2, there is no hinge gap when the Find N2 Flip is closed, so it keeps dust out. TÜV Rhineland tested the durability of the hinge independently, and certified that the phone can withstand over 400,000 folds and unfolds at standard room temperature. That's equivalent to opening and closing the phone around 100 times a day for more than 10 years. The phone was also tested up to 100,000 times at 50ºC and 95% humidity, and also at -20ºC.

The Find N2 Flip contains a 4,300 mAh battery, the biggest battery in any flip phone by far, OPPO said. The company also worked closely with MediaTek to create an optimised version of its flagship Dimensity 9000+ chipset. This results in an hour more of video calling, two more hours of social media and five hours of music streaming. Tests have shown that the Find N2 Flip is the first flip phone to offer a full day of use on a single charge, OPPO added.

The Find N2 Flip can also charge faster than any other flip phone. The 44 W SUPERVOOC, takes the battery from nearly empty to 50% in 23 minutes, and up to 100% in less than one hour.
