IMDEX Asia 2023 to feature a startup innovation challenge and tech talks

IMDEX Asia 2023, Asia’s naval and maritime defence event, has returned after a four-year hiatus.

This 13th edition features the inaugural IMDEX Asia Innovation Challenge at What’s Next, a platform for aspiring startups to showcase their innovations on a global stage. The challenge, conceived in partnership with Starburst, the world’s first and only global aerospace and defence startup accelerator and strategic advisory practice, highlights promising responses to four problem statements in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), ship operations, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and sustainability.

Eight startups will compete in the challenge:

Captain’s Eye (Israel): Shipboard real-time safety AI technology

H3 Dynamics Holdings (Singapore): Hydrogen fuel cell technologies

LexX Technologies (Australia): AI/machine learning (ML)-powered maintenance

Meteomatics (Switzerland): Climate and weather technology

Four companies will showcase surveillance-related technology. Eddyfi Technologies (Canada) and Hydrov Singapore (Singapore) will introduce inspection and underwater surveillance technologies, while SubUAS (USA) has an underwater and aerial surveillance system. Image Soft (Finland), on the other hand, is focused on underwater surveillance and naval simulation.

Sixteen companies will showcase latest maritime and unmanned innovations at Tech Talks, including autonomous robotic systems.

IMDEX Asia will host more than 11,000 delegates from over 60 countries/ regions, and over 250 participating companies from 25 countries/ regions from 3-5 May 2023, at the Singapore Changi Exhibition Centre. It will also welcome 47 delegations, which include 22 Navy Chiefs and Coast Guard Directors and Head of Maritime Law Enforcement Agencies from more than 40 countries, that will congregate for the exclusive International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) that drives and facilitates strategic conversations to promote mutual understanding and collaboration in Asia Pacific.
