Clients can expect smooth transition from IBM's x86 server business over to Lenovo, IBM says

It is currently business as usual for IBM's x86 server division, until the transaction with Lenovo closes. Both businesses remain in two separate companies and  operate independently, says Daniel Tan, IBM System x Business Unit Executive, ASEAN.

"I would like to make it clear that  IBM will continue to run our complete x86 business without disruption," he said.

The transaction means that both companies will continue to work closely, Tan added. "Lenovo and IBM do plan to enter into a strategic relationship that will include a global OEM and reseller agreement for sale of IBM's industry-leading entry and midrange Storwize disk storage systems, tape storage systems, General Parallel File System software, SmartCloud Entry offering, and elements of IBM's system software portfolio, including Systems Director and Platform Computing solutions. So we will have a sourcing relationship with Lenovo for these types of packaged x86 systems," he explained.

"In terms of maintenance contracts, certain IBM System x maintenance contracts will be transferred to Lenovo. IBM will work closely with Lenovo on the specific requirements of each client. IBM will continue to provide maintenance service for all products covered under this agreement," Tan further said.

Tan assured clients that the transition will be smooth. "Clients will continue to place service calls in the same way they do today and can expect to receive the same high level of service and coverage that they currently receive," he said.
