GlocalNumber sees potential interest from Asia Pacific and Middle East telcos

GlocalNumber wants mobile operators to consider its global membership-based service that it says will mitigate the threat of over-the-top* (OTT) players to operator revenues.

GlocalNumber members can enjoy unlimited voice and messaging as well as services that could attract them away from OTTs and back to the core mobile operator networks, the company said.

GlocalNumber operates over the mobile operator's high quality voice and SMS networks, and not the Internet, making it accessible to people who do not have Internet access, a potential audience of 5 billion. Applications and content on the GlocalNumber cloud can be triggered by unique GlocalNumber IDs or by SMS.

According to GlocalNumber, China Mobile, Zain Group, NTT Docomo, Maxis, and Lycamobile were among the telcos operating in the Asia Pacific and Middle East which made contact during the recent Mobile World Congress.

Christopher Richardson, CEO and Co-founder of GlocalNumber said, "The response from Operators exceeded my expectations. GlocalNumber is a new and attractive service for mobile operators to win back communication to mobile operator networks."

*OTT, or over the top, refers to companies which take money from subscribers without paying the communications service provider. WhatsApp, for example, charges subscribers a nominal fee for messaging as it works over the mobile Internet. Subscribers do not pay their mobile communications providers any additional fees for using WhatsApp other than for the amount of data transferred, which is typically less than paying for a traditional text message.
