1-Net Singapore expands with new data centre for digital content in Southeast Asia

1-Net Singapore, a MediaCorp enterprise, has fired the first salvo in its regional expansion strategy in the Southeast Asia region with the launch of a new data centre serving the Southeast Asian region, 1-Net North. 1-Net will be looking to tap on other Southeast Asia countries like Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand next, the company said.

“We’ve seen a shift in the way consumers consume their information over the last few years, and businesses have also responded by changing the way they engage customers. With the opening of this new 1-Net Data Center, 1-Net aims to become Asia’s data centre of choice,” said Wong Ka Vin, Managing Director of 1-Net Singapore.

1-Net North is the first in Southeast Asia designed to meet the emerging demands in content digitisation for the Southeast Asia region. The online video audience alone grew around 8%* in the past year in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia also ranks higher than the global average when it comes to music, movies and entertainment consumption.

1-Net North is Singapore’s first Tier III designed and constructed data centre to be certified by the Uptime Institute. It is over 200,000 sq ft and will be located at Marsiling. The new building is on a long-term lease from CitySpring Infrastructure Trust as part of a joint venture with Shimizu Corporation, and the total investment is expected to cost around S$130 million. 1-Net will also be investing an additional S$70 million to fit out the data centre with the technology required to attain the Tier III Design and Construct certification. It is expected to be completed by the last quarter of 2015.

1-Net currently manages telco-class carrier-neutral Internet data centres along with providing domestic and international connectivity, managed services and media delivery services.
