SMU chooses Thomson Reuters' Converis to manage research

Singapore Management University (SMU) is adopting the Converis solution from the Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters as the platform for holistic management of its research lifecycle.
Converis provides pre-and-post-award and open-access repository management to support the entire spectrum of the research lifecycle. The first university in Asia to utilise Converis, SMU will gain insights into the efficiency and impact of its research based on real-time information, enabling it to make better informed decisions to drive future success of its research programmes.

"We are proud to be Asia's first university to use Converis for research management and look forward to gaining a comprehensive overview of our efforts that will aid us in furthering the global impact of our research programmes," said Lau Kai Cheong, SMU chief information officer and VP, Integrated Information Technology Services (IITS).
Converis complements and integrates with InCites™, a web-based research analytics platform enabling institutions to measure research output and impact, monitor trends, and benchmark performance against peers at the individual, departmental and global levels. As a current InCites customer, SMU will see the benefit of further integration within the platform.

"Part of SMU's mission is to generate leading-edge research with global impact. In synch with our increasing number of research programmes and expanding needs, we wanted to implement a system that is scalable and robust enough to integrate the different systems we were using into a single platform. After spending a year evaluating our needs and speaking with Converis users, we chose Converis as it met our needs, enabling us to enhance our research productivity and streamline our end-to-end research management workflow in a seamless manner.

"The system will ease the administrative tasks of our researchers, allowing them to focus on their research activities. In order to maintain our competitive advantage, it is critical to continually maximise the efficacy and efficiency of our work throughout the entire research cycle," said Lau.

Converis was the flagship scholarly analytics solution from AVEDAS, a company which was acquired by Thomson Reuters in December 2013. Converis is now part of the Thomson Reuters Research Analytics suite.
