Japan was also in both lists, ranking 6th for e-government development and 5th for e-participation, while New Zealand ranked no. 9 for e-government development.
The Kingdom of Bahrain has been ranked 18th in the on the e-government readiness and quality of e-services, and first on the the Arab and Middle East countries for e-government readiness.
The report evaluates the readiness of 193 countries and United Nations Member States. 2014 is the first year to see all 193 UN Member States with national websites, though only 46 have dedicated data portals. Between 2012 and 2014, the UN notes that the number of countries offering mobile apps and mobile portals doubled to almost 50 countries. Increased use of social media has also been observed, with 118 countries using it for e-consultation and 70 for general e-government.
