VCE Vblock Systems can halve annual data centre costs

VCE is the global leader in converged infrastructure that delivers IT economics, agility and simplicity that help accelerate customers’ journey to the cloud VCE Vblock Systems deliver a pre-integrated, pre-tested and pre-validated converged infrastructure designed to work as a single system with unified customer support, compared to traditional approaches which comprise assorted components from multiple vendors.

VCE’s Vblock Systems for converged infrastructure see a 50% reduction in annual data centre costs, says Anthony Elvey, Managing Director, Service Providers Asia Pacific & Japan, VCE Asia Pacific Japan, against companies which assemble their infrastructure from different vendors. VCE Vblock Systems deliver a pre-integrated, pre-tested and pre-validated converged infrastructure designed to work as a single system with unified customer support, he explained.

“This allows VCE’s customers to focus on business innovation instead of spending time and money on integrating, validating and managing IT infrastructure. Vblock Systems are optimised and balanced for top performance, security, stability, ease of use, and reduced deployment time,” he said.

The main obstacle to adopting VCE’s solutions, Elvey noted, is the traditional approach to IT.”The main challenge that VCE faces for the adoption of converged infrastructure is IT’s resistance to change as they are used to focusing on silo components of IT – networking, storage or servers. One of the perceived advantages of traditional reference architecture is that it offers more customisation options to suit the needs of a business. VCE ensures that its Vblock Systems will be updated to meet the changing needs of businesses, offering customisable computing, networking, storage, virtualisation and management resources via a wide range of configuration choices,” he said.

The region has nevertheless caught on to the VCE value proposition. In the Asia Pacific and Japan region, VCE has seen 50% year-to-year growth rates since 2011 with growth primarily driven by Australia, Japan and Singapore, Elvey said. “Our products are applicable to a wide range of industries, but the fields that we see as being key growth areas are in finance, insurance, the government, retail, telecommunications, system integrators and cloud services providers,” he shared.

VCE solutions are being used in data centres as well as for smart city applications, Elvey said. “IT managers are seeing the benefits of pre-integrated data centre technology as opposed to piece parts,” he noted. “The major challenges facing data centres include planning, setting up and deploying infrastructure, and keeping infrastructure up to date, balanced and interoperable. Customers want to quickly accelerate their transition to cloud computing, but at a vastly lower cost.”

Smart cities are another use case for VCE, Elvey said. “There is a huge volume of data being used in smart cities and there is a need for infrastructure to process this intense volume of data effectively and seamlessly, with minimum downtime,” he pointed out.
