ExxonMobil to further lubricant R&D in Asia with tech centre in China

ExxonMobil has announced that it will launch the Asia Products Technology Center (APTC) in Shanghai in 2015 to provide innovative lubrication solutions for customers in Asia Pacific, especially in China. The centre will be located within the the ExxonMobil Shanghai Technology Center and is to offer technical services, applications expertise, collaborative programmes, training and marketing support to OEMs and equipment builders.

According to ExxonMobil’s The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040, China’s industrial energy demand is expected to be 25% higher by 2040 compared to its needs in 2010. During this period, China will encounter huge sustainability challenges while society will place increasing importance on environmental care and safety as a result of projected rapid economic growth.

“ExxonMobil invests US$1 billion in research and development every year, and employs more than 19,000 scientists and engineers who are working on innovative product technologies, creating the structure for a strong global technology network,” said Dr Grant Karsner, VP, ExxonMobil Research & Engineering Company. “At ExxonMobil, we recognise the key role of technology, and the continuous breakthroughs of Mobil lubricant product technology are enabling our industrial customers to achieve sustainability.”
