Hadoop taking over relational database management world

TechNavio has found that Hadoop-based data management is growing rapidly because of its substantial benefits over traditional relational database management systems (RDBMS) and driving the Global Cloud-Based Database Market 2014-2018.

A cloud-based database is suitable for organisations that require immediate access to database services with easy scalability options, low cost and low maintenance, said TechNavio. Hadoop, which is open source software that has been developed by the Apache Software Foundation for a distributed processing of large datasets across clusters of computers, contributes to a CAGR of 62.1% for g
lobal cloud-based databases over the forecast period.

Key vendors in the market include Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Rackspace Hosting and Salesforce.com.

“Hadoop is capable of solving big data problems faced by organisations across the board, as it can be used in conjunction with multiple types of database. The growth in the use of Hadoop has been the dominant trend in the database market and is expected to usher in huge transformations,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of TechNavio.
