SSL certification on the rise with e-commerce and IoT popularity

TechNavio, a tech-focused research firm, says the market for secure sockets layer (SSL) certification is going to be boosted by e-commerce and the Internet of Things (IoT), both of which will require secure connectivity to communicate information.

SSL is a method for secure transmission of documents between a web browser and a web server. This is done with the help of encryption that requires SSL certificates issued by certification authorities, or CAs. 

According to the Global SSL Certification Market 2014-2018 report, the market will see a CAGR of 20.93% during the forecast period.

“Connecting various devices with each other and with end-users' communication devices demands a high level of security. To enhance security levels, vendors like Entrust and Comodo Group are implementing SSL certificates in connected devices, which is expected to boost market growth through 2018,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of TechNavio.

Besides Entrust and Comodo, key vendors listed in the report include GMO GlobalSign, Go Daddy Group and Symantec. Trends like the use of self-signed certificates are discussed.
