Internet Thailand launches Thailand's first public cloud desktop as a service

Internet Thailand is launching Thailand’s first public cloud desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) offering in partnership with Citrix, a virtualisation, mobility management, networking and cloud infrastructure provider. The move was catalysed by Thailand moving up the global cloud readiness ranks from 13th in 2013 to ninth in 2014*.

INET’s DaaS offering leverages Citrix's desktop virtualisation solution XenDesktop to reduce companies' total cost of ownership by up to 40% and decrease IT infrastructure initiation time from 45 days to a single day.

Through this partnership, INET customers will be able to shift their enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) applications from physical to virtual desktops and gain instant and secure access to the corporate resources.

Wanchai Vach-shewadumrong, Deputy Managing Director for INET said, “We foresee the country’s IT spending to grow this year, with significant amounts expected to be spent on software, including cloud and virtualisation. As we continuously look to deliver the best IT infrastructure services to our customers, it is crucial that we help our customers drive business value with innovative IT solutions that meet their unique business needs.”

“We chose Citrix because of its established presence in the virtualisation space. With Citrix XenDesktop, we are able to expand our portfolio of cloud services to offer desktops-as-a-service. By moving legacy, unique line-of-business or self-built software applications to a hosted desktop environment, end-users will experience high performance, anytime and anywhere access to corporate apps and data. This will empower organisations with enterprise-class mobility, security and flexibility to thrive in today’s dynamic business environment,” added Vach-shewadumrong.

Citrix XenDesktop allows INET's customers to securely access business apps and data, including Windows apps, from INET's public cloud. This supports INET’s customers across various use cases, including improving business continuity plans, enhancing PC replacement processes and supporting bring your own device (BYOD) initiatives. The cost of app and desktop management is minimised as apps are delivered, managed and supported through the web-based, self-service provisioning feature. The service also provides on-demand virtual desktop delivery to support a growing mobile workforce.

"Working with INET, we understand the company’s unique business needs as an enterprise public cloud provider to cater to its diverse customer segments. As a Citrix partner, we are delighted to help INET expand its public cloud services offerings to realise better business scalability and agility through Citrix XenDesktop without incurring high costs," said Arthit Satthamnuwong, General Manager, AMPO Microsys.

“Thailand’s cloud readiness is improving steadily along with the country’s smartphone penetration rates. There is a compelling need to build a solid ICT infrastructure in order for businesses in Thailand to realise the potential of its increasingly mobile-savvy workforce. A solid ICT infrastructure, supported by DaaS, can help organisations transform their businesses and gain a competitive edge without increasing IT complexities as they steer towards mobile-first strategies,” Mark Micallef, Area Vice President, ASEAN, Citrix.

INET provides ICT infrastructure services that help businesses in Thailand strengthen their competitiveness. The company’s portfolio include business continuity planning and disaster recovery, network connectivity, and cloud services.
