Oman launches e-commercial registration service

Under the auspices of Darwish bin Ismail al- Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs, the Oman Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched an e-Commercial Registration Service (e-CR) as part of its Invest Easy programme.

According to the Oman News Agency, Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan al-Dheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and head of the supervisory committee, said that Invest Easy is implemented in six stages. Three stages have been completed, comprising 23 electronic self-service initiatives.

The technical integration project now covers 15 public organisations and will be expanded in the future to cover 29 governmental department and private organisations.

He pointed out that Invest Easy is the first project to support and issue e-signed certificates as well as the first project that supports authentication. Investors can now download their certificates after they have been signed. This eliminates the need to visit the Ministry or any of its branches in person.

Eng. al-Dheeb pointed out that over 3,000 commercial registration applications have been submitted electronically through the Invest Easy Portal. Since the launch of the service last December, there have been 1,015 e-applications for CR-authenticated certificates. He also said that there are 117 business activities that do not require getting licenses or approvals from the public agencies.

"Work is under way to develop a system for the financial reports which will allow investors to submit their annual reports through the e-portal. About 40 new e-services are expected to be launched in the coming stage," he said, revealing that 94% of the data has already been processed.
