Intel's Channel Symposium 2015 in Singapore marked the local launch of Intel's 6th Gen Core processor, which had been announced in September 2015.
Sumner Lemon, Country Manager, Intel Singapore & Malaysia said, "Now is absolutely the right time to refresh devices, there's never a better time to buy a new PC."
The company has projected an 81 million-unit opportunity for PCs, Lemon said, with 61 million of the purchases to be from existing PC owners, and the remainder from first-time buyers. "We see a great potential market for the channel to tap into," he noted.
Lemon said the channel relationship is all about Intel showing where there are opportunities for the channel to grow their business. "Relationships are really important, you get that by spending time with the partner and understanding their business, understanding the challenges that they see," he said.
Ong added that Intel's channel programme is divided into regular, gold and platinum partners. "We realise that majority are retail based, selling to consumers. Into 2016, we would like to increase their offerings, give them new business opportunities, slowly moving to the Internet of Things segment," he said. "We want to make them systems integrators, integrating the software opportunities that we hunt for them. Together we can offer the solutions to consumers, SMBs and enterprises."
Lemon shared that Intel works closely with all the major OEMs. Intel's strong partnership with Microsoft, particularly with Intel's processor optimised for Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system, is driving joint marketing campaigns with Microsoft. One such campaign was the Intel-Microsoft Make Magic. Every Day Campaign in Malaysia, for which a recent promotion ended on October 25.
"That program will come to Singapore," Lemon said. "We will show what the Intel 6th Gen Core is. We think it's a great time to buy a PC."

Lemon noted that Singapore is a market "where people really appreciate technology". "Love and affection for new technology has not slowed down," he said. "We see things like RealSense and 2 in 1s will really resonate with consumers here."
Arthur Huang, director, Consumer Channels Group, Microsoft Singapore, shared that 110 million devices are running Windows 10 today, and that 90,000 unique PCs or tablet models have upgraded to Windows 10. "Revenue for developers jumped 4X in the eight weeks since launch," he said.
Other Intel product families are doing well, Lemon added. In Malaysia, Intel's Atom x3 Processor Series, codenamed SoFIA and designed in Singapore, is seeing "great traction", Lemon said, particularly in the phablet form factor. "There are tens of millions of people in Southeast Asia for whom devices with great performance and battery life are very attractive. The x3 and SoFIA give us that," he stated.
"Demand (for tablets) greater than 8” still growing," he said, noting that there has been 48% growth phablets. More new form factors are expected. "This region is leading the trends that are shaping the future of the industry," he said. "APJ is going to be the largest market for wearables by 2020."

Lemon remarked that competition has not slowed down for Intel. "It forces us to be better, to work harder to bring better products to market," he said. "If you can't give consumers what they want the market will let you know."
Lemon invited up-and-coming channel partners to be part of the Intel story. "Our door is open. We're always looking for new partners," he said. "Our business model only works if our customers and partners are successful."
