AliCloud, the cloud computing business of Alibaba Group, China’s largest e-commerce company, has turned to GPUs to speed up its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts.
AliCloud will work with NVIDIA to promote the first GPU-accelerated, cloud-based, high performance computing (HPC) platform in China. The AliCloud HPC service will give AliCloud users — primarily fast-growing startups — access to NVIDIA Tesla K40 GPUs to power a range of HPC, AI and deep learning applications.
The creation of intelligent machines that can learn like humans do is revolutionising a broad range of industries. But training them can traditionally take weeks or months on the most powerful computers. GPUs can slash this time to days.
Alibaba and NVIDIA will also establish a joint lab for research and technology development. The lab will provide AliCloud users with services and support to help them take advantage of GPU-accelerated computing.
