Brocade introduces new partners for open mobile networking ecosystem

Brocade has announced new partnerships that expand its open mobile networking ecosystem, which is designed to accelerate the development of New IP solutions and prepare mobile operators with an open network for the demands of 5G. Brocade's new partnerships enable solutions that leverage software-defined networking (SDN), network functions virtualisation (NFV), and mobile edge computing (MEC) to help mobile network operators (MNOs) and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) innovate faster, improve service agility, and identify new revenue streams.

"As part of the Brocade Partner Network, the open mobile partner ecosystem provides access to best-in-class networking solutions that enable choice, reduce vendor lock-in, and increase network flexibility. Not only does this help MNOs and MVNOs accelerate their rate of service innovation, it can also significantly reduce the cost of service delivery," said Kevin Shatzkamer, CTO of mobile networking, Brocade.

New SDN and NFV partners include Coriant, which is working with Brocade to deliver virtualised mobile networking-as-a service for enterprise bandwidth-on-demand provisioning. Other deliverables include multi-domain programmability and control via a web-based service portal. This collaboration enables capabilities such as mobile network slicing - the ability to provide a mobile network on demand, as a service.

"Coriant is committed to helping our customers successfully transition to a more efficient and agile operating model by realising the full potential of SDN and NFV technologies. We are pleased to join the Brocade open mobile networking partner ecosystem and extend our collaboration to validate the real-world benefits of fast service activation and application-aware traffic management in multilayer, multivendor infrastructure," said Uwe Fischer, CTO, Coriant.

Brocade and RIFT.io are also working together on network-intelligent and proximity-aware orchestration to help mobile operators deploy virtual network function (VNF) capabilities in data centres and in the right virtual location within the mobile network.

"RIFT.io is pleased to partner with Brocade to deliver multivendor, pre-integrated, tested, and interoperable SDN and NFV solutions. Brocade is a key RIFT.io partner for enabling 5G services and next-generation mobile networks. The combination of Brocade and RIFT.io technologies is a natural fit and will accelerate SDN/NFV adoption by mobile operators," said Vincent Spinelli, SVP of global sales and marketing, RIFT.io.

Brocade is collaborating with MetaSwitch and Openet to deliver pre-integrated NFV solutions that can be deployed immediately. These validated solutions provide MNOs and MVNOs an easier way to implement NFV without requiring forklift infrastructure upgrades. Brocade and MetaSwitch are building a virtual IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) voice over LTE (VoLTE) solution. Brocade and Openet are collaborating to provide MVNOs and mobile virtual network enablers (MVNEs) with machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

"Metaswitch's Clearwater Core Virtualized IMS and Perimeta Virtualized SBC, along with the Brocade Virtual Core for Mobile solution and the Brocade vRouter, offer carriers an alternative to a complete end-to-end pre-integrated VoLTE solution," noted Brandon Harper, SVP, business development and channels, Metaswitch.

"The movement of NFV from trials and proof of concepts to production environments demands pre-integrated NFV solutions. Openet views Brocade as a key partner with its highly complementary technology. Together with Brocade, Openet's integrated solutions deliver on the promises of NFV - faster time to market, innovative new services, and the ability to quickly monetise and generate new revenue streams," said Joe Hogan, CTO, Openet.

Applications from PeerApp, Saguna, and Vasona enhance the Brocade mobile edge virtual infrastructure capabilities in the areas of video serving and optimisation; video caching; network visualisation and analytics; network optimisation; and VoLTE local routing. By leveraging Brocade mobile edge virtual infrastructure capabilities, MNOs and MVNOs can capture new revenue by extending the cloud to the edge of the mobile network.

"Edge-based content delivery and traffic optimisation is key to realising the true potential of next-gen mobile networks and services. Partnering with Brocade will allow PeerApp to leverage strong Brocade IP and network capabilities, and deploy our caching and CDN mobile edge product over pre-integrated MEC platform, shortening our time to market. We are excited to join forces with Brocade to enable management, monetisation and acceleration of content at mobile edge," stated Alan Arolovitch, CTO, PeerApp.

"Saguna is pleased to partner with Brocade and integrate the Saguna Open-RAN with Brocade's mobile edge virtual infrastructure capabilities. We are confident that our joint offering will help simplify, accelerate, and monetise mobile edge computing deployments for mobile operators." added Lior Fite, CEO, Saguna.

"Some of the most exciting innovations in wireless are happening at the mobile edge, a part of the network where Vasona Networks has been focused since day one. We are proud to partner with Brocade to provide detailed information and software functionality about the cell's real-time traffic flows and user behaviours, which will help create intelligent networks that can address opportunities and challenges in the moment with unprecedented flexibility," said John Reister, VP of product, Vasona.

The Brocade open mobile networking ecosystem also includes partners that extend the company's solutions for network visibility and wireless networking. Network visibility partners include Avvasi, EMC, Guavus, and Viavi. Wireless networking partners include Aerohive, Aruba, and Ruckus.
