Targeted at families with young children or elderly parents, the device makes use of old mobile phones and provides consumers with the ability to remotely manoeuvre robots for easy home monitoring. The S$150 robot can detect motion or the lack of it for safety purposes, and can work for 4 hours continuously. The company also exhibited a smart lighting system.

Kitchen of the future

SousChef the company is founded by four Singapore University of Technology and Design students. SousChef the device is a multifunctional robotics-inspired prototype kitchen-top device that is equipped with an inbuilt memory for recipes. The device stores dry ingredients in individual containers, then weighs the ingredients and produces them on trays as requested through a screen built into its work surface. Recipes programmed into the appliance allowing users to request all the ingredients for that recipe to be dispensed. A chopping board and a weighing scale have been incorporated. The Sous Chef is a proof-of-concept for a more sophisticated appliance that will handle chillded ingredients and automate cooking, the inventor said.

Enhancing communications with robotics

Double 2, the telepresence robot, will be launched in Asia by OTSAW Digital at CommunicAsia2016. The second generation teleconferencing robot from Double Robotics can be remotely controlled by a mobile teleconferencing system. An employee who is working remotely can sign in to Double to control its movement and speak directly to colleagues. Communications feature HD video and can support calls from five parties simultaneously. Double works with an iPad (not included) that is mounted onto a rolling mechanism, allowing it to move around an office, up slight inclines and over thresholds and cords.

In addition to telecommuting, Double is expected to be ideal for secure areas such as clean rooms or data centres. "Once they get the hang of it they really love it," said a representative from OTSAW. LinkedIn is listed as a customer.

It can also be used to control home appliances, such as setting a timer to start the coffee machine in the mornings, or switching a device on or off as a scenario requires. No additional hacking or wiring is needed, just an additional device that sits between the power plug of the device and the power.
