Parallels Remote Application Server is Nutanix-ready

Parallels, a global player in cross-platform solutions, has announced that its Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) is a Nutanix-ready solution that leverages the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud to simplify and reduce the total cost of virtual desktop and application delivery to any device. Parallels RAS works with major hypervisors and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, as well as with the Nutanix platform.

The partnership with Nutanix can reduce total hardware and software costs for IT departments by as much as much as 70% compared to traditional virtual desktop and application delivery solutions, Parallels says.

Robert Young, Research Director, IT Service Management and Client Virtualization Software, IDC, said, “The benefits of VDI have primarily been limited to enterprises that could afford the significant expense and deal with its complexity. Fortunately, today’s new hardware and alternative software solutions for delivering Windows apps and desktops to any device make VDI simpler and more affordable. Now both SMEs and SMBs can use VDI efficiently to support more devices, while realising ongoing cost savings from streamlined IT support, extended hardware life, and increased productivity.”

Jack Zubarev, President of Parallels, said, “We are pleased to offer SMEs and SMBs a VDI solution that combines our Parallels RAS solution with the Nutanix platform to simplify VDI and provide a better return on investment. Businesses struggling with the costs and complexity of expensive VDI software now have an easy to implement and simple to maintain solution to remotely deliver Windows applications and desktops.”

According to Zubarev, IT departments can install Parallels RAS and be up and running in about two hours. Virtual desktops and applications can be live in a few days, compared to weeks and months of traditional solutions, he added. "A set of automated wizards makes it easy to manage, deploy, and maintain the infrastructure. It integrates and incorporates all features for remote desktop and application delivery— including reporting, high availability, two factor authentication, connection brokering, peripheral redirection, Windows Client Management, native clients for mobile devices as well as HTML5 client that can be accessed from any device," he said in a blog post.
