Ascendas-Singbridge chooses Equinix for data centre, disaster recovery needs

Equinix, the global interconnection and data centre company, has announced that Ascendas-Singbridge, an Asian provider of sustainable urban and business space solutions, has been working with Equinix as its provider of colocation services and to support business continuity since February 2016.

The decision was driven by a lower total cost of ownership (TCO), Equinix’s proven uptime record, and ability to future-proof connectivity demands via access to its dense ecosystem of network and cloud providers. Yeap Chin Boon, VP, Group Information Management & Technology, Ascendas-Singbridge, said: “Outsourcing to Equinix provides us with a more cost-effective approach to our current colocation and disaster recovery needs. As our business continues to scale, we foresee higher connectivity requirements. Equinix’s track record as a reliable and secure data centre provider, along with its interconnected ecosystems of network and cloud providers makes it an ideal company for our current and future needs.”

Ascendas-Singbridge used to maintain an on-premise data centre, but due to changes in office locations, the company decided to explore outsourcing its data centre functions instead. In addition to colocation, Ascendas-Singbridge also needed a more agile network infrastructure that could meet its future connectivity demands.

Through a preliminary TCO exercise, Equinix demonstrated that its carrier-neutral data centre would be more cost-effective compared to Ascendas-Singbridge maintaining its own data centre. In addition, when compared to non carrier-neutral colocation providers, Equinix proved more cost-effective and could offer Ascendas-Singbridge real-time connectivity with its existing network providers. Ascendas-Singbridge is now more agile as well, as it can capitalise on Equinix’s ability to seamlessly connect the company to more than 200 network providers to benefit from reduced bandwidth costs, lower latency and overall improved network performance.

Ascendas-Singbridge’s primary production site resides in Equinix’s International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre SG3, with its disaster recovery site housed in the SG2 facility. With more than 34,400 sq m of colocation space, the Equinix IBXs in Singapore are home to over 450 companies. Equinix facilities across the globe have a track record of a global average uptime of more than 99.9999%.

Clement Goh, MD, Equinix South Asia said, “Ascendas-Singbridge is one of the many forward-looking customers located inside Equinix. In this interconnected era, more IT industry players and service providers are physically connecting to one another inside our data centres to increase network efficiency and save costs. The rise of such ecosystems helps companies like Ascendas-Singbridge to realise the benefits of working with and leveraging the Equinix interconnection platform.”
