Darktrace is recognised for its AI technology

Analytics firm CB Insights has included Darktrace, the enterprise immune system technology provider, on its Artificial Intelligence 100 list (AI 100), a select group of emerging private companies working on groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The CB Insights research team select the AI 100 winners based on a combination of data submitted by the companies, responses to interview questions and the company’s Mosaic Score. Mosaic is an algorithm that gives predictive intelligence into the health of private companies.

Darktrace was recognised for its “amazing teams, technology, and "traction”.

“From financial services to healthcare to transport, incumbent companies in every industry are seeing that AI will reshape their industries. And as so often happens, transformational innovation comes from emerging companies,” said Anand Sanwal, CEO, CB Insights.

“In the case of AI, a lot of the groundbreaking work is being done by the AI 100. The companies in the AI 100 are accelerating research, improving efficiency, and making many game-changing advancements that will be felt for decades to come.”

Nicole Eagan, CEO, Darktrace said, “Cyber security is one of the biggest challenges facing the enterprise today. Darktrace’s self-learning ‘immune system’ is a critical application of machine learning that is facing this challenge – and succeeding.”

Darktrace further announced that it has secured contracts valued at over US$125 million to date. Darktrace’s revenue is increasing by 600% year on year, and customer renewals are at over 90%. Its Enterprise Immune System has now been deployed over 2,000 times.

Darktrace has also expanded into new territories, including Malaysia. With over 360 employees across 23 global locations, the company has more than doubled in size over the last year. Its latest Asia-Pacific customers include M1, the United World College of South East Asia, Rakuten Securities and Phoon Huat, a wholesaler of baking ingredients.

The Enterprise Immune System is powered by unsupervised machine learning and mathematics developed by specialists from the University of Cambridge. By learning the ‘pattern of life’ for each user, device and network, the Enterprise Immune System automatically detects anomalous changes in behaviour and emerging threats. This self-learning technology has allowed Darktrace to discover over 27,000 serious cyber incidents which went unnoticed by legacy security tools.

“Our outstanding growth this quarter reflects the huge demand for Darktrace’s self-learning solution,
which is the only technology that is capable of catching in-progress attacks, without prior warning or special insights,” said Eagan, speaking of Q416. “Organisations of all sizes across the world are deploying the Enterprise Immune System to defend against not just today’s cyber-threats, but tomorrow’s too.”
