CommunicAsia2017 in pictures

CommunicAsia2017 ran from 23 to 25 May 2017 and brought together a whole range of innovative technologies. The show was held together with EnterpriseIT2017 and BroadcastAsia2017 which in total showcased technologies for a ‘smarter’ future. The three exhibitions spanned 65,000 sq m across Marina Bay Sands and Suntec Singapore, hosting 1,800 exhibitors from 62 countries and regions.

CashShield helps merchants rethink fraud management.
CashShield helps merchants rethink fraud management. Companies such as Razer, Tmobile, Vodafone and Aliexpress are using CashShield, said a booth representative. There is particular interest from online gaming vendors as gaming credits can be traded and consumed very quickly. According to the representative the system is more than 99% accurate, and does away with phone challenges - which can upset premium customers - or multifactor authentication - which requires the hassle of carrying another device for authentication.


This remote healthcare monitoring platform from Philips involves issuing wearables to seniors who have chronic diseases and letting them participate in self-care. They can report key health statistics either at home, with the smaller device with a screen, or at kiosks in public areas, which allows doctors to monitor them without them needing to go to a clinic, and to determine if there is any need for intervention.

The CardioStik measures electrical activity of the heart by placing the fingers onto the electrodes, providing a real-time electrocardiogram (ECG) that can be sent to a smartphone via Bluetooth and then forwarded on for analysis in the cloud.

Hats by Govtech is automated software development testing used internally to help developers test every single element and also make sure that the testing is consistent. Human testers may forget to test some of the elements, especially after many rounds of testing, or may skip elements which have always performed successfully before, explained a booth representative.

This drone detection company can even trace a drone operator.
Singapore-based TRD Consultancy displayed the ORION anti-drone system. The system detects drones by the radio signals used to communicate with them in a 5km radius, jams them, and can even trace the drone operator. It already has clients in Myanmar, Thailand, and Indonesia.

ChatSIM, billed as the world's first unlimited one-year plan for chatting, offers a single SIM for unlimited text chats and emoji, with more than 250 operators in 150 countries. The service is available for a one-time US$15 registration fee and US$15 per year, and there are no roaming costs, the company says. Top-ups can be made for sending images, forwarding video, and making calls. The SIM can be bought online or via Amazon.

Marketing activities to entice visitors were not very much in evidence at the show. Korean application performance management provider Jennifer had a game at its booth, while Ruckus Wireless ran a lucky draw for a drone.

This mascot for one smart star was handing out brochures. The costume represents the star which is part of the company's logo. The company was promoting the Star Phone, which allows potential customers to dial the phone number of a business in the Star Phone mobile app to get access to the company's services.
