Lenovo's Data Center Group to leverage AI in custom solutions

Artificial intelligence (AI) is going to be a key focus for Lenovo's Data Center Group. The company is working on solution suites that will use AI to enhance business outcomes for customers, with the first to be launched later this year.

"We're working with partners to grow an AI stack," said John Boey, Country GM, Singapore and Malaysia, Data Center Group, Lenovo. "The inference engine uses the power of the server to train."

Potential use cases would include being able to determine a person's age through video and deliver personalised offers to people based on their location. AI software would be smart enough to flag a security risk who is wearing clothing unsuited to the climate as well, Boey said.

Roderick Lappin, Senior VP, Global Sales & Marketing, Data Center Group, Lenovo added that AI is unlikely to replace jobs today, a question debated at length in the media today. Instead, AI applications are likely to add useful insights to what we already know. "It's more about inserting little components in traditional corporate infrastructure and in their traditional business processes and that's where we see more value," he said.

Target verticals for AI solutions will include healthcare and homeland security. "It'll be a partnership with customers to bring a solution to life," Boey said.
