This blog was begun in 2014 as an outlet for news, trends and other insights in Asian technology because of the shrinking number of publications covering enterprise technology, software development, electronics, manufacturing, and channels in Singapore.
TechTrade Asia is about the computer and communications technology trade in Asia Pacific and the Middle East: new developments with technology vendors, channel partners, and manufacturers, as well as major trends, product launches and standards for the B2B and B2C world. Central Asia is occasionally featured.
The blog covers electronics, hardware, software, services, and channels, through news, trends, surveys, appointments, awards, case studies and customer testimonials, but there should be regional significance for the announcement. While enterprise technology predominates, TechTrade Asia is about the full spectrum of technology, including consumer technology. Technology in other disciplines may be featured if there is some overlap with computers and communications, likely these days with the Internet of Things.
As resources are limited it is not meant to be first with the news, nor can it provide a comprehensive overview of the industry. Editorially TechTrade Asia provides an alternative perspective of the industry through a personal curation of news items.
Target Audience
This blog focuses on anyone working in the trade as well as on actual users of technology, with the focus on enterprise technology use.
Although there is an option for receiving stories by email on the site, this is third-party technology and I don't get details of these readers, hence am unable to share.
Google Analytics says average monthly views went above 10,000 in 2015.
Frequency
This Singapore-based blog is updated at least once a week with a minimum of zero and maximum of five posts in one weekday. Mondays are the best days to visit, though there is often something new every day.
Amplification
I may share the events I cover 'live' on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Blog posts from TechTrade Asia are occasionally referenced in sister blogs. Links to them may be tweeted and/or mentioned on Facebook. Appointment stories may be shared on LinkedIn.
Posts are also shared on Google+.
Editorial Calendar
Predictions on technology trends for the new year are published at the beginning of the year. Major technology conferences are often covered, including CommunicAsia in Singapore.
For the predictions pieces, please send commentary by mid-December 2016 on what the highlights of the year were, and what will be significant for the next year. Comments should be fairly short, around 100 words per point, and elaborate on why this is significant, what companies can do about it etc. Please feel free to add a couple of milestones around the topic that happened for your company in 2016 (100 additional words). There is no need to cite third party research.
For the 2016-2017 round of predictions pieces the areas of focus are:
- Artificial intelligence (AI), cognitive computing, machine learning and deep learning
- Big data analytics (including genomics, sports analytics)
- Best practices for digital transformation
- Digital futures (including connected cars, genomics, 3D printing, robotics)
- How Asian adoption of technology will differ from those of the rest of the world
- Internet of Things
- Security (including Blockchain, ransomware)
- What the Olympics taught the tech industry this year
- Virtual reality/augmented reality
- Fintech
The 2015/2016 predictions stories included

New architectures and models to take centre stage for 2016
Business Model
There are currently no plans to charge to include content in this blog, though things could change in the future. I do not work on the blog full-time as I do have to pay my bills through other means.
Rate Card 2016
I do not have a formal media kit or rate card since coverage is free at this time. As such, sponsored content is not accepted. In the future, sponsored content could potentially result from face-to-face interviews, article contributions, adapted or directly reproduced from materials provided, with hyperlinks to the sponsor's online properties. A more detailed price for sponsored content will be developed if and when the business model evolves.
There is no charge for appearances.
Blogger Profile
I've created tech, B2C and B2B content in journalism and in public relations, and other than Singapore have lived in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Oman.
What I can do
I'm based in Singapore, and happy to take on press releases relevant to the blog. I cover selected events in person in Singapore.
There may be more Singapore-based content as I am based in Singapore but content from anywhere else in Asia, the Pacific or the Middle East is welcome.
I typically get many more press releases than I can feature, and the number of releases I receive has grown significantly over 2015. Coverage depends on a combination of relevance, timing, and whether I have the time to blog. Events that I cover in person do get priority, but coverage again depends on relevance.
Press releases which are a couple of weeks old or more are unlikely to be featured, though I sometimes queue posts for a future date. This is usually because there are too many posts about the same company or the same type of posts (surveys, case studies etc) are appearing in the same week. I may blog about mergers and acquisitions but typically not about financial results. Please note that posts may be updated with new content like pictures and links etc after publication.
Bylined article contributions are not accepted though this could change in future.
The blogging process for WorkSmart Asia is explained here, and is basically similar for TechTrade Asia.
