The Dell Edge Gateway 5000 Series Internet Gateway has won a Best of the Best Red Dot Award in 2016 for the Computers and Information Technology category. It was one of two Best of the Best winners for the category.
"The design of the Dell Edge Gateway 5000 Series emerged with an outstandingly consistent form for the technology on the inside. The enclosure is compact and reduced to the essential elements, which makes the system easily accessible for users and impressively visualises the performance and processing power of this gateway. Functional and extremely solid, the unit is designed to be easily wall-mounted," noted judges.
The Dell Edge Gateway 5000 Series collects, secures, analyses and acts on data from multiple disparate devices and sensors. It serves to communicate meaningful data to back-end systems in the cloud, control room or data centre. As one representative of the Dell Internet of Things (IoT) Gateways, the system is equipped with ample processing power and provides flexibility to perform analytics throughout an IoT ecosystem. It excels at the edge of a distributed network, closer to the devices and sensors.
Much like a PC, this gateway allows all peripherals and sensors to be attached easily. Like servers and routers, this gateway was designed to run continuously without interruption. Housed in a solid enclosure primarily constructed from die-cast and extruded aluminium, it lends itself to being wall-mounted like a utility box or a typical electrical panel. Thanks to its overall consistent design concept, this gateway blends in perfectly into contemporary network scenarios – its distinctive design idiom conveys high competence.
The Red Dot Award is one of the largest and most prestigious design awards in the world. In 2016, the award received a record 5,200 innovations from 57 nations. A jury panel of 41 international experts debated in Germany over three days to select the product designs that represent the best of design today.
